BULK CHEMICAL DELIVERY FUME CONTROL
Tanker unloading scrubbers for bulk acid and ammonia tanks
Active, recirculating packed-bed scrubbers that treat the vent from your storage tanks during every tanker delivery, including the compressed-air blow at the end. Built in polypropylene and interlocked with your fill point.
✓Sized for the air-blow surge, not just the pump rate
✓Interlocked to the fill point: no scrubber, no delivery
✓Retrofits to the tanks you already have

Every delivery pushes a tank full of fume out of the vent
As liquid goes in, the same volume of fume-laden air comes out. Pneumatic tankers then finish by blowing compressed air through the line and into the tank: the biggest surge of the whole delivery, and the one passive vent pots are not sized for. A tanker unloading scrubber, sometimes called a tank vent scrubber, treats that air before it leaves the vent.
Drivers and operators in the plume
The vent is often metres from the coupling. Every delivery puts the people making the connection closest to the release.
Visible fume and complaints
Hydrochloric acid fumes white in damp air and ammonia carries a long way. Neighbours notice deliveries before your site team does.
Corrosion around the tank farm
Acid fume settles on steelwork, cable trays and instruments near the vent, delivery after delivery.
Chemicals our tanker unloading scrubbers treat
| Chemical delivered | What comes off the vent | Scrubbing liquor | Typical sites |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hydrochloric acid | HCl fume | Water or dilute caustic | Metal finishing, water treatment, power |
| Ammonia solution | Ammonia vapour | Water or dilute sulphuric acid | Power (SCR), chemical, water treatment |
| Nitric acid | Acid mist and NOx | Caustic, chemistry confirmed per duty | Chemical, metal finishing |
| Oleum / fuming sulphuric | SO₃ and fine acid mist | Caustic with high-efficiency mist eliminator | Chemical makers and distributors |
| Ferric chloride | HCl fume | Dilute caustic | Water and wastewater treatment |
| Sodium hypochlorite | Chlorine, if the product is contaminated or acidified | Caustic | Water and wastewater treatment |

Built for the real peak, not the brochure flow
Sized on your delivery
We size on the displaced volume, the fill rate and the air-blow flow from your actual tankers, while keeping back-pressure on the tank vent inside its limit. That peak, not the tank’s normal breathing, is what sizes a tank vent scrubber.
Recirculating, chemistry held
Liquor recirculates over a full packed bed with pH measured and reagent dosed to setpoint, so the tenth delivery of the month is scrubbed as well as the first.
Interlocked with the delivery
A permissive signal at the fill-point panel: the delivery cannot start until the scrubber is running with liquor flow and pH in range. Alarms go to your BMS.
From tank vent to clean discharge
One scrubber can serve several tanks of compatible chemicals. Each package is sized to your tanks and your tankers.
Materials: polypropylene vessels and packing, PVDF where the chemistry or temperature needs it.
Outdoors: designed for installation in the tank farm, including frost protection where needed.
Honest scope: incompatible chemicals never share a scrubber. Acid and hypochlorite vents stay separate to avoid releasing chlorine.
Close the gap your risk assessment already found
Delivery is often the single largest planned release on a chemical storage site. A scrubber turns it from an accepted risk into a controlled, recorded one.
Our documentation supports your COSHH assessment, your environmental permit or local authority conditions, and COMAH duties where your inventory brings you into scope.
- No visible fume from the vent during the air blow
- Drivers and operators out of the release at the coupling
- Deliveries logged against scrubber status via the interlock
- Fewer complaints and less corrosion around the tank farm

Questions site teams ask us
We already have a passive vent pot. Why go active?
Passive units suit small tanks filled slowly by pump. A compressed-air tanker blow-down produces a far higher flow than a passive bed is sized for, which is when fume breaks through. An active recirculating scrubber is sized for that peak.
Can you fit it to our existing tanks?
Yes. We survey the tank vents, check the allowable back-pressure and route the ducting to suit the tank farm you have.
Can one tank vent scrubber serve several tanks?
Yes, where the chemicals are compatible. Incompatible vents, such as acids and hypochlorite, always get separate scrubbers.
What maintenance does it need?
Routine liquor top-up or bleed, pH probe calibration and an inspection of the packing and pump. We set the service interval around your delivery frequency: [service interval].
Do you supply outside the UK?
Yes, across the UK and Europe. Equipment is UKCA and CE marked.
